Guarding Objectivity

Objectivity [ ob-jek-tiv-i-tee ]

Def: To take into account all available information, and to avoid any form of prejudice, bias, or wishful thinking.

Over the past several decades, objective advice has become a scarce commodity on Wall Street and related banking institutions.  From expensive lessons learned the hard way, investors have come to realize that significant conflicts of interest exist at major banks and brokerage firms when it comes to sales and objective investment advice.

The majority of financial advisors in the United States are sellers of financial products; this means their income may be dependent upon their ability to steer their clients to some of the many financial products available in the market.

These advisors include financial planners, analysts, insurance agents, accountants and attorneys, as well as stockbrokers. Many of their clients are not aware of their advisors’ dependence on selling products.

From a client’s perspective the advantage of HFG’s fee based model, is that there is no incentive to generate commissions through excessive buying and/or selling of securities.   This reinforces our commitment to unbiased counsel and objective advice.

Most fee-only planners are fiduciaries, which mean they are legally obligated to put their clients’ interests first. Surprisingly, and appallingly, the typical broker is not a fiduciary, and is held to a lower standard… Just know that it’s a topic you should research and bring up with any financial advisor you consider hiring.” Robert Brokamp, CFP & Advisor for Motley Fool
